ARTIST STATEMENT
I am drawn to ceramics for its grounding pace and how vessels can hold meaning through use. My practice centers on essential forms, restrained design, and a belief that handmade objects can shape the rhythm of daily life.
Working from my studio on Hornby Island, BC, I create contemporary vessels intended for everyday ritual—the morning coffee, the shared meal, the pause that returns attention to the body.
I make work for those who value handmade craft as a way to enrich the everyday, and who enjoy food and drink as moments of connection, beauty, and intention. Each piece is slow‑crafted, its form, weight, and surface refined through repetition, material sensitivity, and care.
ARTIST BIO
Sara Vipond is an artist and educator whose interdisciplinary practice spans ceramics, drawing, video, sound and print media. Her work is grounded in material inquiry and the relationship between handmade objects, ritual, and daily experience.
She holds an MFA from York University, an Honours BA Specialist in Art & Art History with a Gender Studies Minor from the University of Toronto, a Studio Diploma from Sheridan College, and a Ceramics Certificate from the Kootenay School of Art.
Sara has taught studio and academic courses at York University, Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and North Island College.
